Question

View Only Access on Generic Inquiries

Hi Everyone,

We have some generic inquiries that were published with view only access to some users.  At times, it seems like the parameters on the inquiries malfunction and are read-only.  It seems that changing the access to Delete on the generic inquiry resolves this, but I want to understand if this is by design or is a bug and what the best practices are for permissions on published generic inquiries.  It doesn’t seem to me that assigning Delete permission on a GI has any potential issues with data being modified since the user would need the appropriate actions on the underlying screens (I believe), but looking for some confirmation here.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi @mikegrci -

My understanding is that you’re correct, unless you have actions enabled on the GI then giving delete access to the GI won’t give you additional access to the underlying data.

I haven't been able to find any documentation to back this up in my quick search, but it makes sense to me that making a GI View Only could restrict parameter use. (I’m real curious to see if anyone has a definite reference/experience they can confirm here for you.)

Hi @mikegrci

I checked with permissions with GI and didn't see any problems.

Please send some screenshots describing the error and attach your GI xml file.

Best Regards,

NNT

Thanks, Will.  What’s interesting to me is that the issue appears to be intermittent.  We have tried clearing cache, multiple browsers, even logging in as the user from an admin account and the issue persists until we change the GI permission to Delete for that user.  However, the behavior was not occurring last week and just started this week on this specific GI.
