Phantom in Production Details

We would find it very helpful to be able to add a subassembly to Production Details, mark as phantom, and upon saving, the materials in the subassembly would be added to Production Details instead of the assembly itself.

Use case: we have kits or groups of parts that need to be added to the product order in a certain operation when a customer wants us to customize a trailer a certain way.  These are not true subassemblies that can be built ahead of time with a separate work order.  We actually do not want a separate work order.  Therefore, we would rather have the materials of the subassembly BOM simply added to the product order in a certain operation.  This saves time from having to manually look up the subassembly BOM and add the 10 components manually to the product order.  We could simply add the subassembly, mark phantom, and upon save the 10 components would be added to the product order.

Does anyone else out there have a use case for this?  I know certain product configurators will handle this functionality, but in the absence of a configurator, this feature would be nice.

@danielklumpp - this sounds like standard functionality. We handle phantoms today.

This is in the help documentation:

  • Phantoms: Phantom items can be entered on the BOM. They are referred to as phantoms because they show up on the BOM but disappear when a production order is created. Only manufactured items with a BOM can become phantoms.
    • Ability to be a true phantom or subassembly
    • Phantoms can be stocked
    • Multilevel phantoms are supported
    • Changes to a phantom such as components or quantities when made at the BOM level are carried through the system
  •

  • Before (default): Operations of the phantom subassembly are included in a production order before the parent operation.
  • After: Operations of the phantom subassembly are included in a production order after the parent operation
  • Exclude: Operations of the phantom subassembly are not included in a production order, but the materials of the subassembly are included in the materials list for the parent operation

Debbie, we do use Phantoms in Bills of Materials, and that works great.

What I am talking about is adding a phantom item to an existing production order in production details.  Upon save, the materials of the subassembly would blow into the production details.

@danielklumpp - gotcha!

You should check out Acumatica’s product configurator. In the meantime add an idea and see how many votes we get!

To tack onto what Debbie Baldwin stated, the product configurator would work well in this situation.  You can list the materials that could be added as options along with rules to ensure specific items are included with others or excluded if the parts are not compatible.
