I could not find an add-on that refers to such institution, however, AR contract management functionality can be used to manage membership, renewals. One can use mailing lists for communications.
With case management integrated with Contracts, it can be used for specific issue based communication thread between member and association.

The client is an educational, research and scientific association of physicians. They need to manage the membership of this association, which consists of hospitals, clinics and individual doctors.
