Sales tax for Telecom

carlasantuccibrown

My client would like to use Acumatica AR Invoices and Sales Orders and then have the tax calculated right in Acumatica. It would work just like to normal Acumatica / Avalara plug in but it would be for telecommunication tax not sales or use tax. I’ve checked with Vertex and Avalara and neither do telecom tax with their integration with Acumatica.   Also ideas?

Hi @carlasantuccibrown what about using the Acumatica tax setup? It won’t talk back to Avalara but you can setup some rates and then use a tax zone for telecommunication customers or a tax category if it needs to be itemized.

HI @carlasantuccibrown

When looking at the Acumatica Market place, it looks like Wolters Kluwer has a CCH Suretax that might help:

Telecom and VoIP taxes are complex because a single line item can have multiple lines of taxes that need to display on the invoice.

I found out that Avalara provides a manual process for submitting a file containing invoices to a website and returning the taxes.

Workaround Process:

  1. Acumatica exports a file containing AR invoices that need to have telecom taxes applied.
  2. Customer manually uploads this file using the process here.
  3. Avalara works its magic and publishes a zip file which the customer retrieves.
  4. Acumatica imports the file using the invoice number as the key field and adds lines to the invoice with the taxes and descriptions. Internally we set a flag so we don’t send this invoice again. The flag also signals the system that the bill is ready to send to the customer.
  5. At the end of the month Avalara includes the tax information for standard filing.

This process is useful if you have weekly or monthly billing cycles. If you need real-time sales order and quote values then you will need to build an interface.
