Setting up Credit Terms with Milestones that do not have a set timeline

Does anyone know how to set up credit terms that have milestones but do not adhere to any timeline? For example, we are entering a new Sales Order with the following terms:

  • 25% Down Payment
  • 50% Upon Preliminary Design Approval
  • 25% Prior to Shipping

I had tried setting up the terms with multiple installments but these milestones do not necessarily have a set timeframe between them. For instance, the time between the down payment upon receiving the customer purchase order and the preliminary design approval can range from 2 weeks to 8 weeks depending on how complex the job is or what the customer is asking for. Same with the timeline between design approval and prior to shipping out the equipment.

Wondering if anyone who works in a manufacturing business has experienced something similar and found a workaround for something like this or if there are any possible solutions. We use the Sales Order module for our jobs and do not have the Project Management module implemented.

Thank you!

I would like to follow this thread because we are a manufacturer, and I came on here specifically to see if someone has an answer to this...we run into this ALL the time.

I’m going to guess it would have to be a customization to get it to pop back ON HOLD after the items have gone through the MFG or Purchasing modules.
