Inventory Transfer of an item from One Warehouse to a specific Warehouse converts it to a new item (different SKU)

Hi everybody,

We are looking for a solution on how to convert a stock item to another new item when inventory was moved to a certain Warehouse.

Example: Warehouse 1 is the main warehouse where we sell Product having SKU AAA for it’s original price. Now, there is a Warehouse 2 where we move items that are still usable but has quite damage and sold for lesser price. We need that Product AAA converted to a separate product, like SKU AAA-2, since we don’t want to track the inventory of items already moved to Warehouse 2 on the original item AAA. 

Will that be possible? That transferring an item from one warehouse to another will also move the quantity from original item SKU to new (or another) SKU?

Create a new Inventory adjustment

You are removing one item in the Main and adding back in the Job as a different item with costs the same. It may be more difficult if you are tracking cost differently. We use estimated unit costs.

 

Maybe other option is to make a kit assembly for the damaged part and the actual number as the stock component. Then you could build the kit number and transfer it to the new warehouse.

The solution suggested by @amajors should work fine. 

There is no option available to move actual cost to new item. However, creating an inventory adjustment with negative quantity for old item issues existing item with actual cost.

Adding new item with positive quantity with exact cost at which old item was issued, ensures the item is in a way transferred to new item at same cost. 

The COGs ( or any other expense account used ) acts more like an intermediary account during the transaction. Net impact on release of adjustment on that account will be zero.

Creating an assembly may not work well since the cost of the new item is lesser than the old item used to build the assembly.

@jib87 , consider doing ‘kit asssembly’ on a destination warehouse to turn the item to the ‘damaged’ one

To do this, you can set up a kit specification having the ‘damaged’ item as a Kit Inventory Id and ‘normal’ item as a kit component (with a quantity of 1). Unit Cost of the ‘damaged’ item can be entered explicitly

Sounds like you would need to do an inventory adjustment, negative of the item from Main Warehouse and on the same adjustment do a positive of the new part number at the Second Warehouse.

That wouldn’t transfer the cogs from the original item to the new one.
