How to create all matrix variant combinations at once

If you have more than two variant attributes, is there a way to create all possible variant combinations at once?

From what I can tell, you have to select a value for each of the non-Column/Row Attribute IDs (in the additional attributes table) and create those matrix items, then change one of those additional attribute values and create those matrix items, then change one of those additional attribute values again and create those matrix items, etc.

I’m looking for a way to generate every possible variation without having to go through the tedious process of selecting each combination of additional attribute values.

@Chris Hackett , I would like to call your attention to a response above. This is not the first time I see this type of answer. The publisher makes a note at the very beginning, that the content is AI generated - that’s good. However, the content itself is pretty much useless. It doesn’t address the original request, but adds a lot of info-noise, and in worst case, it can lead community members into wasting time pursuing ‘solutions’ that lead nowhere. Just wanted to call it out.

@michael66 , you cannot create all the possible variations on the Template Items screen. As you noted in your question, if you have more than 2 variant options, you would need to do it one-by-one for 3+ options. However, you can approach this problem slightly differently. You can come up with all the variants in a spreadsheet, and then build an import scenario to import the stock items and connect them to the template item. You may want to refer to this article for more details:

If you have more questions, feel free to ask them here or in that thread.

Good luck!

@michael66

This is AI based analysis please check below!

Unfortunately, Acumatica doesn't have a built-in function to automatically create all possible variant combinations if you have more than two variant attributes. The process you described is the standard way to create matrix items in Acumatica.

However, there are a few workarounds or potential solutions to streamline the process:

1. Custom Scripting:

  • You can create a custom script (e.g., using C# or Python) to generate the necessary SQL commands to insert the matrix items into the database.
  • This approach requires programming knowledge and careful testing to ensure data integrity.

2. Third-Party Tools:

  • Some third-party tools or integrations might offer features to automate variant creation.
  • Research and evaluate tools that integrate with Acumatica to see if they provide this functionality.

3. Acumatica Enhancement Request:

  • If you feel this feature is essential, you can submit an enhancement request to Acumatica.
  • If enough users request this feature, Acumatica might consider implementing it in future releases.

Tips for Managing the Current Process:

  • Use a Spreadsheet: Create a spreadsheet to list all possible combinations of your variant attributes. This can help you organize the process and avoid missing any combinations.
  • Copy and Paste: Once you have created one set of matrix items, you can copy and paste the values for the other attributes and make minor adjustments to create the next set.
  • Consider a Template: Create a template of the matrix items you need to create and then modify it for each set of variant combinations.

While these workarounds might not be ideal, they can help you manage the process more efficiently and reduce the time spent on manual data entry.
