Hello Acumatica Community!

At Acumatica, we're constantly working to improve your experience and deliver a cloud ERP that's stable, secure, and adapts to your evolving needs. With the upcoming Acumatica 2025 R1 release, we're excited to announce a significant enhancement to our update process: Patches and Service Packs!

This new approach is designed to provide you with faster fixes, greater control, and a more seamless experience, minimizing disruptions while keeping your system up-to-date. This builds upon our Always Current program, ensuring you always have a safe and secure environment plus the most critical fixes.

What's Changing?

We're moving away from the traditional monthly "Update" releases that bundled many fixes together. Starting with Acumatica 2025 R1, we're introducing a more streamlined approach:

  • Patches: These are small, targeted fixes designed to address high-severity or critical issues affecting stability, security, or core functionality.
  • Service Pack: These are consolidated releases that bundle all previously released Patches and other important fixes, providing a convenient way to stay up-to-date.

How Does This Benefit You?

  • Faster Fixes: Critical issues are resolved immediately with Patches, without waiting for a larger release.
  • Minimal Downtime: Patches are deployed automatically for SaaS customers (including both Always Current and Flex customers!) with just a brief application server restart.
  • Greater Control: While Patches are automatically deployed, Service Packs are optional for all customers. When a Service Pack is available, you choose if you want it and can schedule it to be deployed at your convenience.
  • Improved Stability: The targeted nature of Patches minimizes the risk of unexpected issues, thereby reducing maintenance costs for the customer.
  • Focus on Your Business: Spend less time managing updates and more time on what matters most – growing your business!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

We know you probably have questions, so we've compiled a list of FAQs to help you understand these changes:

  • Q: Can I still get Updates once I upgrade to Acumatica 2025R1?
    • No. Once you up upgrade to Acumatica 2025 R1 or beyond, you will only receive patches and optional service packs.
  • Q: Can I request some patches not to be installed?
    • No. Patches are automatically applied for all SaaS customers on 2025 R1and above.  This is to ensure you always have a safe and secure environment plus the most critical fixes.
  • Q: Can I get patches and service packs if I am on a prior version, for example, 2024 R2?
    • No, this change will start with 2025 R1 and forward. Customers on prior supported versions continue to receive updates as usual during the version support lifetime.
  • Q: I am a SaaS Always Current customer; how will these changes impact me?
    • Patches- Patches are applied to your environment automatically, behind the scenes, during off-hours. A minimal downtime, 2-3 mins, should be expected when they are being applied. There is no action needed on your end to prepare for this.
    • Service Pack- If you are on the GA version, Acumatica 2025 R1, you have the option to request a Service Pack when it is released. You need to work with your partner and Acumatica to schedule this, as this is not automatic.
  • Q: I am a SaaS FLEX customer; how will these changes impact me?
    • Patches- Patches are mandatory and are applied to your environment automatically, behind the scenes, to your environment during off-hours. A minimal downtime, 2-3 mins, should be expected when they are being applied. There is no action needed on your end to prepare for this.
    • Service Pack- If you are on the GA version, Acumatica 2025 R1, you have the option to deploy Service Pack when it is released. You need to work with your partner and Acumatica to schedule deployment of service packs.
  • Q: I am a Private Cloud customer; how will these changes impact me?
    • Patches are made available through KB articles on Acumatica Community, along with instructions on how to install them. Patches contain fixes related to critical functional and security fixes. Installing the latest patch will also automatically install prior patches.  Please ensure you apply patches promptly as they become available.
    • Service Pack will be made available to download from Acumatica Community.
  • Q: Will my customizations get unpublished when a patch is applied?
    • No. Patches are not full installs, and they do not make changes to any configurations, customization, or integrations already deployed.
  • Q: Will I be notified prior to patches being applied?
    • Yes. Information about patches will be posted on the community forum. Your designated contacts subscribed for “IT and SaaS Notices “on the customer portal will also receive an email notification at least 5 days in advance, unless the patch is designated as emergency maintenance and in such event we will provide the notification as soon as possible.
  • Q: Will Service Packs be applied automatically as they become available?
    • No.  Service packs are optional for all customers. You will however continue to receive patches for the version you are on even after a service pack becomes available.
  • Q: If I am on A Service Pack, will I receive patches?
    • Yes, customers who are on a Service Pack will continue receiving patches.
  • Q: If I am on a prior supported version, will I continue to receive updates?
    • All supported versions prior to 25R1 will continue to receive updates. However, please not that you need to be on a compatible version in order to upgrade to 25R1. Please refer to the respective major version page on the Community to determine your upgrade path and timing.

We're excited about these changes and believe they will significantly improve your Acumatica experience. Stay tuned for more information as we approach the Acumatica 2025R1 release! If you have additional questions, please contact your Acumatica partner or visit the Acumatica Community.

@Kiran2022

What’s the plan for customers running 24/7 operations?

Are we able to request specific time slots for patches those customers?

» We prefer to not restart applications when large groups of users are transacting. «

Hi- we can work with customers and partners to determine a suitable time in such cases.

It is clear from the above that Service PATCH does not impact customizations, configurations or integrations.   - Please clarify what impact do Service Packs have as it states not only Service Patches, but also “other bundled fixes”  - Could these PACKS impact customizations and integrations?

What will be the expected maintenance window for patch installation?  Will end-users logged in the system be provided with a warning prior to installation?

@Kiran2022 With the updates, you could see the version you are currently on and new updates in System Management. How will this appear in 2025 R1 going forward, particularly for checking your current version and newly released service packs in System Management?

Hello!  This is great information, thank you.  A few questions:

  1. If a patch fails to apply or applies unsuccessfully with the partner and/or customer be notified?
  2. Will Marketplace products have any ability to incorporate changes into Patches and/or Service Packs?
  3. The previous version numbering schema was well documented, what will be the new version numbering schema and definition?

Thank you!

Hello Acumatica Community,

If I’m not SaaS Always Current with a 2024 R1 version and planning to upgrade this month?

Can I request a sandbox for 2025 R1 before upgrading?

There is a statement in Upgrading to 2025 R1, that the request to upgrade the sandbox is available on June 11. Which means I cannot request a sandbox for upgrading from 2024 R1?

Thanks!

When patches are being installed, you should expect a very brief downtime. We will notify you at least 5 days in advance so your users are fully aware on when this happens

Hello- You can request for a 2025 R1 sandbox today. Based on your current version, please check its page here on Community to determine if your build is compatible with GA, which is available now, or with Service Pack.

Additional feedback from the team: Consensus is this is a great step forward. As a VAR, we rely heavily on build numbers to quickly identify what’s deployed in a customer's environment.

With the introduction of Patches and Service Packs, could there be an opportunity to reflect those in the existing versioning scheme?

For example, could the first digit of the last sequence (xx.xxx.Yxxx) indicate Patches? I realize this is just a conceptual idea… especially since there may be more than 9 patches per release, but some form of visual indicator in the build number could really help partners quickly assess what’s running in each environment.

It would help us distinguish between critical fixes and optional rollups at a glance, especially when supporting multiple environments. Curious how Acumatica is thinking about that piece of communication?

Thank you!

Will the patches and the service packs be available on builds.acumatica.com?

Are the KBs for patches only available for Acumatica VARS on community.acumatica.com?

Thanks for your help.

I tested the new PatchTool.exe on a non SaaS Development Site. I have 2 concerns:
1. The updated PDB files are missing to go with the updated DLLs. Also, the Site’s Backup of the original DLLs should include the PDBs if present.
2. I see no way to get an updated CodeRepository of Patches for custom development. There are also no versions of this Patch with source code to pull down on form builds: https://acumatica-builds.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html?prefix=builds/25.1/
It is very important for any custom development that may have overridden methods that where updated in patch’s DLLs, which may need to be checked for code differences and then customs updated.

We’re on 24R2 PCS(on-prem) and planning to upgrade to 25R2 in late November/December.
For the sake of stability, we typically we wait to upgrade until after the first update is released. I have not seen any patches or a service pack come out yet and am wondering if there’s an ETA for that?

Or is 25R2 so solid that it truly hasn’t had any? Or are there some that I’ve missed?

25 R2 GA Patch 1 is available:

We don’t publish specific release dates, as these are subject to change. Past release patterns suggest that 25 R2 SP1 may be available late December.

This is what I was looking for-thanks. It was not clear from this article where notifications of new patches will be posted.
