How and why are your clients using Project Cost History (PM706230) report?

Hi, all!

We would like to ask why customers are using Project Cost History (PM706230) report and not the other reports (for example: Project Transactions (PM633000) report or Project Transaction Details (PM401000) inquiry)?

I am an Acumatica prospect.  We are a construction specialty-trade contractor looking seriously to switching to Acumatica from our current ERP. 

I have never seen any of these reports from Acumatica but am extremely interested in their existence and usefulness.  Is there a place I can look at samples/templates?

Respectfully, why would Acumatica have a similar report in its software that is not as helpful as others?  Could Acumatica not simply combine into the best report and remove the non-value-added report?

We’re glad to hear you are evaluating Acumatica to replace your existing ERP.  We have many reports and inquiries throughout the system and like to get feedback about use cases.  In this situation, our client forgot about the additional Filtering & Sorting parameters on our Project Transaction Views/Reports and was trying to use the Cost History for outlier situations.  When we reminded them of the other options available, they went that direction, but we thought it was worth asking about other outlier cases for our product team to review.

What ERP are you currently using?  Over my years, I have been exposed to many different ERP solutions and may be able to offer comparison.  Feel free to direct message me.

Regarding a “Report Book”, one option could be our on-line help, that has report names and selection criteria, but not a sample of the output.  Possibly our release notes too (not sure if you have access to 2023 R1 release notes).

We use this report as a starting point for further customization but it does not serve us as-is. We like to have breakdowns by task & grouped labor hours by cost code. Occasionally when the substantiated billing needs to be broken out by task, we will show back up by using the modified cost history report that displays project tasks separately. Overall its nice to have access to reports like these but it does not serve us out of the box

We use it as a template and starting point for more client specific job costing reports. I don’t have a single client using it out of the box. 

It lacks some key features most clients need when looking at cost detail (date ranges specifically just came up in a meeting today).
