How do you stop the use of cost codes for now construction related GL codes

For those using the construction module, how do you limit the use of cost codes from non-construction related GL codes.

All of our construction related activity flows through our Cost of Construction account and our Property under Development account.  But recently we’ve noticed that our Project Management reports do not reconcile to our Property under development account.  As we researched we discovered entries recorded to non-construction related gl codes that had cost code info entered.  It feels like there should be preventive controls in place to stop a user from hitting “rent” and cost code info (for example).

Clearly something was overlooked in our implementation and I’m not sure where to start looking.

Thanks in advance.

@RHarrison Acumatica out-of-the-box GL accounts do not have tie to projects and their related entities like Project Tasks or Cost Codes. As a result the platform does not have a way to identify the Project related GLs from the rest and prevent posting to the invalid accounts. What you will need to do is a customization to add a Checkbox let say “Allow Project Posting” to the Chart of Accounts and then if not checked in entry screens raise an error on GLs which are not allowed for Project Posting.

Alternatively you can alter “Control Account Module” list in CoA to add a “PM” value and perform the same validation in the Data Entry screens.
