In continuation with the below article, the current article explains how the same can be done in 23R1 and the difference between 22R2 and 23R1.

  • Like in 22R2, in 23R1 there are out of box import scenarios for Template Item(Import Template Items), Matrix Item (Import Matrix Items).
  • The Edit Template ID checkbox in the Item Class form which enabled the Template Item ID field in the Stock/Non-stock form is removed.
  • The Is a Kit checkbox is enabled in the Matrix Item which allows the Matrix Item to be created as a Product Kit. Check

All the above is done out of the box.

  • Now to make the Template ID field editable in the Matrix item screen, the user has to publish the attached customization(“ImportMatrixItems2023R100.zip”) to this article. This customization package must be used only with 2023R1 and above.
  • There is a customization package for users who do not have commerce module as well. Check the attachment: “ERPImportMatrixItems2023R1002.zip”
  • For 22R2, check

  • If the selected Template ID in the Matrix Item does not match with default fields with each other, then a popup warning is provided to the user.  The fields that are checked are matching are the below.
  • Type
    Valuation Method
    Tax Category
    Base Unit
    Sales Unit
    Purchase Unit
Popup warning when default fields does not match

@Dana Moffat  This is one of the most requested feature. Ability to make the Template ID as editable for the matrix items so that users can link the template ID to the manually created matrix items. We are already checking if the linked matrix item and template item has the proper variants out of the box.

Can we support this out of the box?

@CourtHagerDI We will check and get back to you about 24R1. Thank you.

@nathankeating  The customization is compatible for 23R2 as well. You can try it and if you encounter any issues please let us know we can fix it.

@nathantrauscht  Sorry, yes it is a typo. Since you have commerce module enabled please use ImportMatrixItems2023R100.zip.

@CourtHagerDI  I am sorry for the delay.

I published the same customization in 24R1 and the template ID is editable. Please see below screenshot. Could you please publish with cleanup and try again?

@hsarjapur The checkbox in the Item Class has been removed. To enable the Template ID you have to use the attached customization (ImportMatrixItems2023R100.zip) in this article description. Though this article is for 23R1, the same customization can be used for 23R2 as well. It is tested by various customers already.

Update: If you do not have the Commerce Retail Edition enabled, then you can use the attached customization (ERPImportMatrixItems2023R1002.zip) package to enable the Template Item ID field for 23R1.

@KarthikGajendran, I’m trying out Build 24.102.0053 with Customization ImportMatrixItems2023r100 and I can no longer assign the Template ID.  Could you please help me find how to keep this functionality in 24R1?

@KarthikGajendran @josh.fischer Why can’t this just be made available out of the box? This is very helpful functionality. Having to rely on an import scenario with the out of the box template item feature is not ideal or efficient. Do I need to create this as a ‘suggested new feature’ for people to vote on?

Following up on my question above.
These modifications are installed as Customization Projects.

@KarthikGajendran  could you please update the links to the packages? All the links seem to be broken.

Hi @Samvel Petrosov the file links above and file downloads seem to work for me…

HI, the links are not working.  If you save link as,  it puts it as a XML.  Customization packages need to be zip.  Please update

@KarthikGajendran  or anyone - have you had experience with making these Template/Matrix changes when working with a Shopify Integration? How does that update the product in Shopify? Does it cause errors or duplicates?

@KarthikGajendran - Is this feature now part of 2023 R2? Do we still need to enable the template Id checkbox in item class? If its not needed then when does the template ID gets enabled in Stock item screen? Could you please share the link to that article or documentation that wld help us to test 23R2 and ecommerce with apparel type of products.

Ok, so we still using the same package to import the matrix items via scenario, gotcha.

Hello @KarthikGajendran

Is the customization compatible with 23R2 Commerce Edition?  If not, is there an ETA for this to be updated?

Thank you

Nathan

@KarthikGajendran we encountered an error when attempting to publish the customization package for 23R2 - however, there appears to be a standard import scenario that works without the package.

It appears that we can no longer manually link a stock item to a template - it must be done using an import scenario. Can you confirm that this is intended functionality?

@KarthikGajendran

Above there was conflicting information on which zip package to use with Commerce Edition.

Customization for 2023R1 with Commerce Module: “ImportMatrixItems2023R100.zip”

Customization for 2023R1 without Commerce Module: “ERPImportMatrixItems2023R1002.zip”

Update: If you do not have the Commerce Retail Edition enabled, then you can use the attached customization (ImportMatrixItems2023r1002.zip) package to enable the Template Item ID field for 23R1.

So - do we use “ImportMatrixItems2023R100.zip” or “ERPImportMatrixItems2023R1002.zip” for Commerce edition? We are using the Shopify B2B connector.

@KarthikGajendran, Is there any update on 24R1? Thanks.
