Hello,

We are in the middle of implementation.

How do people handle numbering of everything in the system?  We have always number things 1,2,3,4, etc.  But since Acumatica sorts numbers as text the numbering goes away.

so now it sorts 1,10,100,2,20,200, etc. Does everyone go out to 0001,0002,0003,0004 or something along those lines?  We are running into this in inventory, construction task list, revenue codes, etc.

Wondering why do numbers get sorted as text?

Many of the fields are technically alphanumeric - e.g. vendors could be 00001, V00001, VEND1, VENDORNAME, etc. Because alpha characters are allowed, the sorting automatically becomes text-style.

All of our clients use leading zeroes as-needed so the field lengths are consistent and items sort number-style.

@jdresel  you are correct, i’ve noticed the same thing.  in effort to avoid that, you can add the letter in the beginning for different areas, V for vendors, C for customers, PR for projects, etc.  you can do this by selecting the type of numbering ID on the numbering sequences screen.

the only place i don’t use a letter before the number is on the project task list (not sure if you are implementing projects at all) but if/when you do, if you plan on using just numbers, definitely add 01, 02, etc. to the beginning.
