Why doesn't the Tax Zone update on an SO/Shipment when changing a delivery to a will call or vice-versa?

We are having tax issues when the Ship To Address Changes on an SO/Shipment. For example, the customer orders and initially asks for delivery to their location. Then they call back to change the order to a Will Call at our shop. The tax rate does not change accordingly when we change the Ship To. Same thing happens in reverse when switching an initial order for Will Call at our shop to a delivery to a customer’s location.

Hello,

You are correct.  I tested Will Call Ship Via (Common Carrier not checked) in 2024 R1 for a customer  2 weeks ago and found that the Tax Zone defaulted from the customer location in all cases, unless the customer location record had a blank Tax Zone.  When the customer location has a blank Tax Zone, then the Tax Zone on the order automatically changed to the Tax Zone of the Company/Branch when Ship Via was changed to Will Call.

The Tax Zone can be manually changed on orders… easily forgotten and not a good solution, in my opinion.

Our solution was to add a Will Call Location to every customer, with default Ship Via set to Will Call and no default Tax Zone. Results: When customer location on an order is changed to Will Call, the ship via defaults from the Customer’s Will Call location and the tax zone is defaulted to the Branch on the Order.
