Validating Ohio Tax Settings JEDD/JEDZ

Userlevel 2

Ohio Payroll taxes can often be complex when determining the correct setup of applicable tax coding for employees and work locations.  The Symmetry Tax Engine will identify ALL potential taxes in certain situations, namely JEDD/JEDZ.   A more focused geolocation tool will be released in the Fall of 2022.

An additional aid to use in the validation of setup is Ohio’s “The Finder”

Please keep in mind these are only aids, and your TAX PROFESSIONAL should be validating all tax configurations.

the differences in tax codes pulled between the ohio tax engine and symmtery are incredibly frustrating to both clients and consultants implementing this product, there really needs to be a way to see, view, and possibly overwrite tax codes that come in based on location as Symmetry frankly is not correct in the codes it pulls (especially in states with wildly complex local tax laws like Ohio).

At this time Acumatica allows for no manual tax code entry or overwrite based on work location and is solely reliant on the Symmetry engine.

Clients are tasked with manually turning tax codes off at each individual employee due to the disconnects between Symmetry and the Ohio tax finder (this is also a prevalent issue in the state of Pennsylvania for LSD codes). The current workflow, validation required, and lack of reporting tools to validate automatically updated tax codes from Symmetry frankly makes the product incredibly difficult to use in this state. Especially for construction clients working in different jurisdictions for each project they have.

Hey guys, Do you know if this has been fixed with an update? We need to be able to control the city tax input.  We are a construction company.  Some jobs are just outside the city limits, and Acumatica forces the city tax, the Acumatica consultants say we have to deduct the tax (this is incorrect) and then correct it with a paycheck adjustment.  If we have to pay more, our company has to “eat” the tax.  In addition, the system adds a tax that doesn’t below.  This is sort of “out of the blue.”

Our poor payroll person @cmoore (hopefully I have the right Candace Moore) has struggled with the system calculating incorrect payroll city income tax since inception with Acumatica.  It is the one reason that I will not recommend Acumatica to any new customer.  Of course, our company, like you guys, has a lot of time and money invested in this software, and we want it to work!

One more thought, we are really worried about our W-2’s being correct.  There’s no way that as is, they are correct.
